Global Flood Defence Systems, has further expanded its global reach by appointing Bangkok-based Raydant International as its exclusive distribution partner for Thailand, its first in Asia.
Founded in 1978, Raydant International has long been a recognised and respected provider of aircraft maintenance equipment for military and commercial aviation companies throughout the country. In 2005 however, it ventured into the world of flood defences when it was awarded contracts by the Thai Government’s Natural Disaster Warning Centre to establish a Tsunami Warning System in several regions in Thailand.
To expand its global reach, Global Flood Defence Systems undertook a thorough evaluation process to select a distributor for Thailand, and found there was synergy with the team from Raydant International, who were looking to evolve the flood defence side of the business.
In 2011, Thailand endured its heaviest flooding in 50 years, with 65 of the country’s 77 provinces declared flood disaster-zones and 800 lives claimed. The cost of damage has been estimated at between $15 and $20 billion.
Frank Kelly, chief executive of Global Flood Defence Systems, commented: “Raydant International is a respected enterprise, boasting strong relationships with stakeholders in Thailand. The partnership seemed like a natural progression for both companies – we wanted to find an exclusive distributor in Thailand who understood the full potential of our products and knew how, and where to resell them, and Raydant wanted to expand its flood defence offering.
“Flooding is a real and increasing threat facing the world, particularly in South East Asia, and our products provide sustainable and cost-effective defence against the devastating effects. We are confident that Raydant is the right partner to take our solutions out to this new market.”
Preyanart Na Songkhla, sales and marketing director at Raydant International, commented: “We had heard about passive flood defences but had never actually seen them in action. GFDS’s products were fantastic and I have no doubt they will be adopted well in Thailand – especially after the unprecedented flooding that was experienced last year. We’re excited to be working together and have no doubt that it is the start of a long and fruitful relationship.”
To prevent such wide spread and devastating events reoccurring, Raydant will now distribute GFDS’s range of passive flood defences on a property and a community level.
